Members of theVermont Tree Society and

tree tour guests celebrate the tree Dave Schneider

planted after his guided walk around the

Rutland Main Street Arboretum.  The tree, a Black Locust,

 was planted in honor of Mother’s Day.

Although the dedication to Mothers was somewhat

impromptu, Black Locust is known for

it’s long-lasting wood and it’s

ability to sprout from the root.

Founding, and 2002 Events

In Montpelier,

Bernd Heinrich,  UVM Prof. Emeritus and author of several books including “The Trees in My Forest,” was the featured speaker at our founding event, December 2001.  

Jeff Freeman, VT Big Tree List Coordinator, presented a Big Tree slide show, founding event, December ‘01.

Sue Morse,  Founder of Keeping Track, presented “Trees and Wildlife” at our 2nd Annual Winter Meeting, December ‘02.

 

In Clarendon,

Property owner and teacher Dave Potter hosted a visit to his National Champion Serviceberry, May ‘02.

 

Rutland City Forester David Schneider  gave us a guided tour of the Main Street Arboretum, May ‘02.

 

Larry Hamilton, Charlotte Tree Warden & Cornell Prof. Emeritus, guided us through Williams Wood, July ‘02.
